About Us

Located in the heart of St. Michaels, Maryland, Union United Methodist Church was founded in 1852. We are a member of the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and for more than 160 years this great historic church has served the African-American community and the Bay Hundred area of Talbot County. Our Bishop is the Rev. Dr. Peggy Johnson and our District Superintendent is the Rev.Gary Moore

About Our Pastor

The Rev. Emanuel L. Johnson, a native of Delmar, Delaware is the son of Marion Johnson and the late Rebecca Johnson. He is married to Nilah Purnell Johnson, a native of Berlin, Maryland and they are the parents of one daughter, Faith Rebecca.

Since July 1, 2007, Rev. Johnson has served as the pastor of our church, Union United Methodist Church in St. Michaels, Maryland. Before arriving at Union, from 2002 to 2007, Rev. Johnson served as the pastor of The Deal Island-St. Charles Charge. He received his early Christian training at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, in Columbia, Delaware, where he served in many capacities under anointed teaching, preaching and leadership of the Rev. Gertrude Brown.

Rev. Johnson is a graduate of Delmar High School, Delaware Technical and Community College and Wilmington University, in Georgetown, Delaware. He is also a 2012 graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary, in Washington, DC, where he was also awarded the Upper Fairmont Christ United Methodist Church award for Proficiency and Promise for Ministry in Small Churches in 2010. Rev. Johnson also serves as a volunteer chaplain For SMFD.
